Malaysia’s Department of Civil Aviation and the European Civil Aviation Conference today signed a cooperation arrangement to strengthen ties between them related to international civil aviation.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the partnership was to establish greater collaboration on matters related to international civil aviation, in particular safety, talent development, regulation, accident investigation, security and the environment.
"The partnership will also allow for sharing of knowledge pertaining to aviation trends, greater participation in international events and meetings as well as the joint organisation of initiatives and training activities," he said in a statement today.
He said Malaysia also looked forward to the creation of a sustainable ecosystem that promoted a common vision for a safe and efficient international civil aviation sector that would catalyse socio-economic growth opportunities of the two nations.
Liow also said that in his address at the 34th plenary session of the ECAC, he had asked for ECAC support for Malaysia's call for real-time global tracking, longer lasting batteries in black boxes and mandatory sharing of information between ICAO, its member states and the airline industry.
"We also urged for the ECAC to work hand-in-hand with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) in this matter," he said.
