A senior Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officer with the title of 'Datuk Seri', who was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday, is being remanded for seven days beginning today.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab. Rahman allowed MACC's application to remand the 54-year old officer until Aug 22 to facilitate investigations into allegations of corruption and money laundering.

The suspect who arrived at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya in a gray MACC car at around 9:30am was seen leaving the Magistrate's Court Trial Room at 10:15am.

According to his lawyer Azizzul Shariman Mat Yusoff, his client was arrested at his office in the DBKL building, Kuala Lumpur at 3.07pm yesterday.

"His house was also searched and a BMW car seized, as well as documents from his office and house," he added.

The case was being investigated under Sections 17(a) and 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for alleged corruption and also under the Anti-Money Laundering, Ant-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

The DBKL official was arrested in operations simultaneously carried out by the MACC yesterday in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Kelantan.

This followed the statement by MACC chief commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad recently that he wanted to clean up the public service from corruption, misappropriation and abuse of power.
