Tabung Haji (TH) is improving its information technology operation by connecting pilgrims' data, especially their medical records, online to the Operation Information Centre (PMO) here.

TH Information Technology Operations director Shahidan Ishak said all information about the pilgrims could now be accessed easily, quickly and accurately if any untoward incident happened.

He said the improvement was made based on several incidents that occurred during last year's Haj season.

"This means that the information stored at the 'maktab' (pilgrims accommodation) and information from health clinics can be linked directly from the information department to the PMO for the purpose of data storage," he said during a press conference at the Malaysian Pilgrims Affairs Office here today.

Shahidan said if incidents happened, PMO would be able to access any data such as a pilgrim's family background and health record as well find out the final location of a pilgrim.

"This way the pilgrims' families in Malaysia will also get updates on their situation because the system can be accessed back home," he said.

Shahidan said 20 personnel comprising information technology experts were already based in the Holy Land to update the technological appliances.

"We will ensure that the internet connection and computers are working well," he said.

Meanwhile, Madinah Terminal Manager Zahir Hussin said he was satisfied with preparations and arrangements by the government of Saudi Arabia to welcome this year's pilgrims.

He also advised Malaysian pilgrims to keep their documents such as passports and health books carefully to ensure a smooth pilgrimage.

Last night, more than 200 TH personnel performed the 'solat hajat' and recited the 'Yasin' here.
