Duty-free Labuan, despite being an international financial centre, continues to enjoy one of the lowest crime rates in the country.

"In fact, serious property crimes and house break-in-related crimes registered a significant drop, and we will step up efforts to combat drug-related offences," he said.

Security in the duty-free-island remains under control said Labuan police chief Supt Adzhar Othman.

Assuring the public that they have nothing to worry about, he said the police, regardless of units, was always on alert when it comes to security.

"Everything will be just fine, there is nothing to worry. We are always on alert when it comes to security," he told reporters after receiving a Police Day cake from Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor Monday.

He stressed that police engagement programmes with community at large would continue as it has greatly helped to address social ills and crime.

"Having dialogues with community leaders like village heads, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and school authorities was one of the activities by police to be closer to the community," he said. -BERNAMA
