Three new COVID-19 cases were reported today, comprising one imported case and two cases of local transmission.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this brings the cumulative figure of cases to 8,737, with only 77 active cases with infectivity.

Elaborating, he said the two local transmission cases involved foreign nationals, one of whom was detected during the screening at the Jalan Duta Immigration Detention Depot in Kuala Lumpur and the other, during screening at a workplace in Sarawak.

"The only imported case reported today involves a Malaysian who was infected with the disease abroad," he told the press conference on COVID-19 development in the country, here today.

He said 12 cases had recovered and discharged today, bringing the cumulative number for recoveries to 8,538, or 97.7 per cent of the total number of cases.

Three positive cases are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, with one requiring ventilator support, he said, adding that no deaths were recorded today.

The death toll due to the disease in Malaysia remained at 122 or 1.39 per cent.
