Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today reminded the people not to panic or worry too much about the lack of basic food supplies following the current COVID-19 outbreak.

He said he had directed the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) as well as the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (MOA) to ensure adequate food supply amid COVID-19 fears.

“I know there is a certain degree of panic among you. I noted there is serious worry that there is not enough food around. But we believe there is a sufficient amount.

“Don’t worry, there is enough food around,” he assured.

"Tonight, I will discuss this matter. The rakyat should not be too worried, I have directed the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry to ensure adequate supply.
"All supermarkets will be open to ensure consumers can buy essential food items," he said at a press conference after the Economic Action Council (EAC) meeting in Putrajaya on Monday.

Muhyiddin added that despite the panic-buying over the last few days, the public is reminded to buy only essential items.

The Prime Minister said that based on the reports he received on Monday, there is no indication that food supply is running out.

“So, don’t rush, buy what is necessary and stock what is necessary and we will ensure that food is available to you at all times,” he added.
