More than four million households earning RM4,000 and below will receive RM1,600 to ease their burden from the impact of COVID-19 on the country's economy.

Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin said, RM1,000 would be paid in April 2020 and RM600 in May 2020.

Meanwhile, about 1.1 million households earning RM4,000 to RM8,000 will receive RM1,000, of which RM500 will be paid in April, while the rest in May this year.

Muhyiddin said this when presenting the RM250 billion Prihatin Rakyat (People-Centric) Economic Stimulus Package today.

He added: "The National Caring Aid (Bantuan Prihatin Nasional), is a one-off cash allocation of nearly RM10 billion, and for the first time will also be channelled to the M40 group.

“They include private sector workers, FELDA settlers, farmers, fishermen, small traders and all those belonging to the M40 group and below.”

In addition, he also announced payments of RM800 to three million single individuals aged 21 years and above with an income of RM2,000 and below, and RM500 to 400,000 single individuals aged 21 years and above with an income of RM2,000 and above.

Of these, the Prime Minister said RM128 billion is allocated to protect the welfare of the people, while RM2 billion is to strengthen the country's economy.

Additionally, RM100 billion is allocated to support businesses including small and medium enterprises (SMEs) besides RM20 billion that has been announced in the stimulus package previously.

“This Prihatin Package will provide immediate aid to ease the burden that all of you have to bear.

“Whether you are a fisherman in Kukup, Johor or a smallholder in Jeli, Kelantan, you are a chalet entrepreneur in Cherating or a rickshaw rider in Melaka, a night market trader in Kuala Lumpur or a guest market trader in Kundasang, you will all enjoy the benefits of the economic stimulus package that cares for the people.

“As I mentioned, no group will be left out. No one will be left behind,” he added.
