A husband and wife couple who owned a mobile phone company were charged at the Sessions Court here today with cheating a housewife of more than RM400,000 last year.

Teo Kok Huat, 43, and his wife, Goh Shwu Koon, 42, however, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to them before Judge Azwarnida Affandi.

They were jointly charged with cheating Cindy Lee Seow Wei, 33, by inducing her to deposit RM439,870 into a bank account belonging to First Comm Telecommunications.

The deposit for the purchase of mobile phones of various brands, was with the intent to deceive the victim.

The offence was allegedly committed at the SS14 Digital Mall here, between July 21 and Aug 29 last year.

They were charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides an imprisonment of up to 10 years and caning, and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazalina Razali offered bail at RM50,000 with one surety and report to the police station once a month as well as not harass the prosecution witnesses.

The accused who were not represented were allowed bail of RM10,000 with one surety each and the court fixed Aug 28, for mention.
