A computer technician was sentenced to a year's jail by the High Court here today after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing seven images of a logo linked to the Daish terrorist group.

Judge Datuk Nordin Hassan, in handing down the sentence, ordered Mohammad Hakimin Azman, 31, to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest, which was Sept 25, 2016.

In his judgment, Nordin said Daish had been gazetted as a terrorist group that brought much damage to the country.

"Follow the true teachings of Islam is better. Your offence concerned only the logo which has been confirmed as a terrorist logo. This small problem, if allowed, will be big.

"I hope this serves as a lesson for you and hope you will not appear in this court again," he added.

Nordin said he handed down the sentence on the consideration that the images were merely a logo and not in militant form or calling others to join the group.

Mohammad Hakimin was charged with having in his possession images of the terrorism-related logo at the Information Technology Division Office, Batu Gajah District Council, Jalan Haji Abdul Wahab, Kinta, Perak, at noon on Sept 25 last year.

The charge, under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to seven years, or fine, and liable to forfeiture of the items concerned, if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Munirah Shamsudin @ Baharum prosecuted, while lawyer Mohd Zamri Ibrahim represented Mohammad Hakimin.
