Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has stated that he has taken the approach of not interfering in the political conflict sparked by PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who claims to have a strong majority to form a new government.

However, the Langkawi Member of Parliament said that he would monitor Anwar's movements and steps.

The Edge Singapore in its report today quoted Dr Mahathir as saying that the allegation by the Port Dickson Member of Parliament was not something new.

Instead, he said, Anwar had made the same announcement in September 2008.

"We have to wait and see if this is another episode of making an unprovable claim," he said in a live broadcast at Nutanix's Asean CIO conference via the Zoom app here, on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir also revealed that his resignation as Prime Minister on February 24 which saw the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government within 24 hours was not his decision.

"I did not intend to resign as Prime Minister, but when my party was removed from the coalition, then the post was finally terminated. All that happened without my knowledge," he added.

"Now I have to face this problem because I did not have time to spend my term and did not have the opportunity to implement the recovery proposal. This is very disturbing," he said

Dr Mahathir said he was working hard to change the situation in Malaysia, but it stopped half way, which also caused a lot of trouble for many people.

"To correct past mistakes, it will take time and should be done carefully so as not to repeat the same mistakes," he said.

Earlier, at a press conference at about 12 noon in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar claimed that he had a strong and convincing majority, which was almost two-thirds of the parliamentary seats to form the government.

He claimed that the MP's support was from various parties, including those in favour of the current government but refused to reveal the number of MPs who supported him.

He said he had been allowed to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Tuesday, but was postponed because His Majesty was being treated at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
