A central technical committee will be set up soon to study the implementation of Syariah Criminal Law or hudud law in Kelantan, Minister in Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said.

He said the setting up of the committee would involve the federal government, the Kelantan government and PAS.

Apart from studying every aspects of the implementation of the law, the committee would also explain the matter to all levels, including to political parties, he told reporters after meeting with Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, Friday.

Jamil Khir said the setting up of the committee was aimed at ensuring that the implementation of the law will run smoothly, while taking into consideration the wellbeing and justice for Muslims, as well as articles under the Federal Constitution.

He said the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) would function as the secretariat for the committee, while the members would not comprise politicians.

Meanwhile, Mohd Amar said the Kelantan government viewed positively the setting up of the central committee, saying that the state government had also set up its own committee on the implementation of the Syariah law in the state.

"PAS has explained its aspiration and proposal on the implementation of the law to DAP and PKR and so far, we (state government) are satisfied with its explanation," he added.
