Ahmadinejad facing sentencing over misuse of funds
Iran's former president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, faces sentences on seven verdicts of misusing billions of dollars in government funds while in office, the public prosecutor at Iran’s Supreme Audit Court said in a newspaper interview published on Sunday.
In one case, dating back to Ahmadinejad’s second term in office between 2009 and 2013, the misused funds amounted to more than two billion dollars, the prosecutor, Fayaz Shojaie, said in his interview with the newspaper Etemaad.

Trump fires communications director Scaramucci in new White House upheaval
U.S. President Donald Trump ousted recently hired White House communications chief Anthony Scaramucci on Monday over an obscene tirade, sources familiar with the decision said, in the latest staff upheaval for the six-month-old administration.
The move, coming just 10 days after the Republican president named Scaramucci to the post, took place on the first day of work for Trump's new chief of staff, retired Marine Corps General John Kelly, who sources said was seeking to impose order on a White House riven with factions and backbiting.

Indonesia jails man who grew marijuana to treat cancer-stricken wife
An Indonesian court on Borneo island on Wednesday jailed a man for eight months after he grew medicinal marijuana to help ease the pain being suffered by his cancer-stricken wife, who died shortly after his arrest, his lawyer said.
Indonesia has amongst the strictest drug laws in the world and has been jailing a record number of users and dealers because of what the government says is a drugs emergency facing the country.
The hardline approach to drugs is broadly popular in the Southeast Asian country, but the story of Fidelis Arie has stirred sympathy and outrage from rights activists.
RON95 and RON97 up by 4 sen, diesel by 6 sen
The retail prices of RON95 and RON97 petrol will be increased by four sen a litre, to RM2.07 per litre and RM2.32 per litre, respectively.
The retail price of diesel will go up by six sen to RM2.05 per litre.
The new prices will be in effect beginning 12.01 am tonight until midnight on August 9.
Attack on Shi'ite mosque in Afghan city kills at least 29
A suicide attack on a Shi'ite mosque in the western Afghan city of Herat killed more than 29 people and wounded more than 64 on Tuesday, officials said.
More than 1,700 civilians have been killed in attacks in Afghanistan so far this year, hitting confidence in the Western-backed government of President Ashraf Ghani.
Abdulhai Walizada, a local police spokesman, said there appeared to be more than one attacker on Tuesday, with witnesses describing a suicide bomber who detonated explosives and at least one other, a gunman who threw grenades at worshippers.

No plans yet for EPF to invest in Bandar Malaysia project
The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has yet to decide whether to invest in the Bandar Malaysia project, said its Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan.
"No one has approached us yet, and we have not seen any plans for the development thus far," he told reporters after delivering his closing remarks at the International Social Security Conference 2017.
Two dead, nine hurt in Minneapolis school explosion
Two people were killed and nine injured on Wednesday after a gas explosion ripped through a Christian private school in Minneapolis, starting a fire and causing a building to collapse, authorities said.
The body of a school employee who had been missing for most of the day after the 10:20 a.m. CDT (1520 GMT) blast at Minnehaha Academy was recovered at about 8 p.m. CDT, Minneapolis Fire Chief John Fruetel told a news conference.
Fruetel declined to identify either victim pending notification of next of kin.

FIC probe: MACC detains two over London hotel purchase
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested two individuals believed to be involved in Felda Investment Corporation's (FIC) purchase of a luxury hotel in Kensington, London between 2013 and 2015.
An MACC source said the suspects arrested were a lawyer and a female assistant who was involved in managing the documentation of the sale and purchase agreement between the original owner and a third company before it was sold to FIC.
"The first suspect was a 44-year-old lawyer operating in Kuala Lumpur while the 29-year-old female suspect was a legal assistant at the law firm.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he is ready for "sumpah laknat" or swear in the mosque to prove his innocence over the allegation that he wanted to topple the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
He said he is ready to take the oath at any mosque in the country and challenged former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to do the same.
Police to call in Dr Mahathir for questioning
PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be called up by the police over the alleged conversation that took place between him and Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on toppling Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said they have received report from both parties, adding that police have opened an investigation paper over it.

United Nations bans key North Korea exports over missile tests
The United Nations Security Council unanimously imposed new sanctions on North Korea on Saturday that could slash by a third the Asian state's $3 billion annual export revenue over Pyongyang's two July intercontinental ballistic missile tests.
The U.S.-drafted resolution bans North Korean exports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood. It also prohibits countries from increasing the current numbers of North Korean labourers working abroad, bans new joint ventures with North Korea and any new investment in current joint ventures.
