The carcass of a whale found in the shallow water along Pantai Sarang Buaya near Batu Pahat is believed to be the same whale beached in Rambah Pontian Island few days ago.

The carcass has been taken to the Department of Fisheries Batu Pahat for post-mortem.

Batu Pahat Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Lieutenant Commander Maritime Muhammad Zulkarnain Abdullah said, a rope was found at the whale's tail.

"Efforts to bring up the whale failed due to the low tide factor. The whale later died at the scene.

"It was the same whale that was found stranded in Pontian sea. We found the same rope at the tail of the fish as the one found in Pontian," he said in a press conference at the office of the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency APMM here.

According to him, the process of pulling fish as far as 15 nautical miles from the location, took about 4 hours, aided by class A fishing boat and monitored by APMM.

The whale is believed to have swam as far as 90 nautical miles from the coast Rambah Pontian before being stranded in the waters of Sungai Nibong Batu Pahat.
