Police have arrested a 52-year-old man over the death of a teenage boy who was hit with a piece of wood allegedly by his father in Alor Gajah last Saturday.

Alor Gajah police chief Supt Mohamad Laham said the man was held at a house in Kampung Padang, Alor Gajah, at about 2.30am today.

"The suspect, who is from Sungai Pelek, Selangor, is being remanded for seven days from today to assist in the investigation," he told Bernama.

The boy, Muhamad Hafiz Abd Ghani, 17, is suspected to have been hit with a piece of wood by his father at their rented house in Kampung Jawa, Alor Gajah, at about 5pm last Saturday.

He was found dead by police after his mother, Siti Habibah Ismail, 38, lodged a police report when she found him motionless at 10am yesterday as she tried to wake him up.
