The body of a man was extricated from under the rubble of the collapsed section of Second Penang Bridge at 9pm tonight.

In the operation, which took more that 24 hours, it identified the deceased as 45-year-old Tajudin
Zainal Abidin.

Tajudin, a former policeman from Kelantan, was living in Penang before the incident.

At the scene, a man believed to be the brother of the victim was also present at the scene fainted upon
seeing the body bag.

Police said that the wife of the deceased has confirmed the man’s identity and a post mortem is scheduled at 10.30pm.

The search and rescue operation continues as the fire department is now confirming whether there were others who were trapped underneath the rubble.
