Selangor state executive councillor, Zaidy Abdul Talib said the state government had never approved the organisation of the beer festival "Oktoberfest" in the state.

Zaidy, who is also Selangor PAS information chief and state Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-Based Industry Committee chairman, said the organising of the event was regarded as not understanding the sensitivities of the Muslim community.

"No approval was given to the event. It can be seen as challenging the prevailing harmony which is always instilled by Selangor Pakatan Rakyat," he said in a statement, here, on Tuesday.

He said the committee had urged the Shah Alam City Council to take firm action against the organisers for putting up the advertisement boards for the festival.

Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar had recently voiced his disappointment when the advertisements were put up around Shah Alam.

"Octoberfest" or beer festival had started since Sept 24 at several locations including at Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur in Subang and Berjaya Time Square Hotel.

The peak of the festival will be on Oct 10-12 at the One Utama shopping complex, Petaling Jaya.
