An Australian and his four-year-old son were killed when the pick-up truck they were travelling in, skidded and collided with a multipurpose vehicle at the 3.6km stretch of the Sultan Iskandar Highway near Horizon Hills here today.

Design project director Troy Justin Youngnickel, 45, and Jai Geoffrey Roy whose bodies were pinned to their seats in the Toyota Hilux died on the spot in the 12.50pm crash.

The bodies were sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.

Iskandar Puteri police chief, ACP Noor Hashim Mohamad said the crash occurred when Youngnickel and his son were heading towards Kota Iskandar from the city.

"We believe the Toyota Hilux driven by Youngnickel had hit a metal barrier and veered into the opposite lane, crashing into the Toyota Vellfire," he said here today.

Noor Hashim said the Australian and his son were staying at Jalan East Ledang in Iskandar Puteri here.

He said the Toyota Vellfire driver, Muhd Hafifi Hafiz Abu, 31, and his passenger, Liew Sun Wen, 18, a student, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the hospital.

"The Toyota Hilux was reduced to a total wreck while the Toyota Vellfire was partially damaged in the front." he said, adding there was a heavy downpour at the time of the crash.
