The decision on the moratorium period for bauxite mining activities in Pahang will be made before April 15, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the ministry was monitoring the situation before making a decision on the matter.

"We have set several conditions for the industry players to comply with, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) at several places, including at port, for transportation and at the mining area," he said when met at Parliament lobby today.

He was asked about a memorandum which was submitted by two non-governmental organisations - Pejalan-Pejalan Kaki #Red2Green and Gabungan Badan Bertindak Menentang Pencemaran Bauksit - to the ministry today, urging the government to extend the moratorium period.

Wan Junaidi said he would bring the matter up to the cabinet.
