A car carrying former opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was being transported from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) back to the Sungai Buloh Prison, was involved in an accident this afternoon.

Lawyer R. Sivarasa said his client escaped serious injuries in the incident which occurred at a traffic light junction near Jalan Saujana Utama in Sungai Buloh about 12.30 pm.

"The prison officer driving the car braked sharply to avoid an oncoming car and the escort car trailing behind knocked into the vehicle (carrying Anwar).

"(Subsequently,) the car carrying Anwar suffered damage mainly to the back of the vehicle," he said in a statement here today.

Sivarasa said Anwar was shaken up due to the mishap and was given painkillers after being treated by a doctor at the prison.

Anwar was warded at HKL on Sept 19 for a scheduled health examination.
