The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will set up the Anti-Corruption Secretariat Executive Council (MESPR) in institutions of higher learning (IPT) next year, to raise awareness on corrupt practices among young people.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the MESPR would emphasis on the application of the anti-corruption efforts among students.

"Each IPT will have a representative from MACC in its Student Representative Council (MPP) and the head of the secretariat in all the IPT will automatically represent the university in the MPP," he said.

He said this at a press conference after attending the gala night of the 5th Anti-Corruption Secretariat Convention at Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA, here last night.

Also present were MACC Community Education Division director Datuk Shamshun Baharin Mohd Jamil and Lenggong Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi MARA director Wan Sabri Wan Ismail.

Mustafar said the approach through education was the best way to raise awareness on the dangers of corruption among the young generation.

He said the MACC would organise various programmes as initiatives to increase students' knowledge on crimes concerning corruption and hoped that their participation in the secretariat would spread the anti-corruption message to the public.
