Two flood relief centres in Alor Gajah near here were closed as of 5.30pm today and 27 people from six families were allowed to return home.

Melaka Civil Defence Force director, Lt Col Effendy Ali, in a statement, said the two relief centres were the Balairaya Bukit Balai and Balairaya Kampung Pulau in Alor Gajah.

He said, however, in the Jasin district, only a family of four at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tehel, was allowed to return home, leaving other 81 evacuees from 18 families still housed at the centre.

Floods in three villages in Alor Gajah namely Kampung Padang Kerbau Bukit Tambun, Kampung Bukit Balai and Kampung Pulau had receded and did not pose any danger, hence, residents were allowed to return home, he said.

Effendy, who is also State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat chief, said the situation in Kampung Tanjung Laboh and Kampung Parit Lampong in Jasin was still being closely monitored. - BERNAMA
