The air quality in Sarawak improves today with no more areas recording unhealthy air level.

The Air Pollution Index (API) reading for Kuching, Samarahan and Sri Aman, which had been above 100 for unhealthy air since the past two days, have improved to moderate this morning.

According to the Department of Environment's (DOE) portal, Kapit and Limbang recorded API reading of below 51, while the air quality in eight other areas was moderate, with API reading of between 51 and 100.

The air quality in Sarawak began to improve at 2am today with the API reading in Kuching and Sri Aman at 99, while the API reading for Samarahan was 100.

As at 8am today, the API reading in Kuching was 92, Samarahan (91) and Sri Aman (85).

The poor air quality in Sarawak the past few days was attributed to the open burning conducted in a neighbouring country, and the situation improved following rainfall in Kuching.

An API reading at between 0 and 50 is good; 51 and 100 (moderate); 101 and 200 (unhealthy); 201 and 300 (very unhealthy); and more than 301 (hazardous).
