Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah has begun his first full day as Kedah Menteri Besar at Wisma Darul Aman here after a dramatic political tussle that ended the divisive reign of his predecessor, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir.

Suavely decked in a dark suit, the bespectacled Ahmad Bashah arrived at approximately 7.50am and was welcomed by Kedah State Secretary, Datuk Bakar Din, senior officers and employees of the Kedah MB office.

Ahmad Bashah, 66, was seen walking into his office at 7.59am and introduced to 15 employees before he was ushered into his office.

Earlier, a doa recital to bless his journey as the new Kedah MB at the foyer of Wisma Darul Aman. The recital was attended by the State's administration senior officers and other employees.

Ahmad Bashah was sworn-in before the Kedah Council of Regency chairman, Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah at the Istana Anak Bukit, here on Wednesday.

Ahmad Bashah is the Kedah UMNO deputy chairman and five-term Bakar Bata assemblyman, since 1995.

Among his first tasks will be to revive the tourism project, Discover Kedah 2016 and development of the rice bowl state.

“There is no excuse for the development project in Kedah to be halted. I am looking at the positive aspect of developing Kedah and will strive to continue the good effort of the previous MB,” said Ahmad Bashah, when met at his office here today.

He also said that he would obtain information from the State executive councillor (Exco) members and senior government officers on the existing framework of Kedah development projects.
