The biological mother of Nur Zuliana Zaara, the five-year-old abused victim said that she had been prohibited from meeting the daughter by her ex-husband.

Sana Abdul Malek, 28 said that each time she had requested to meet Nur Zuliana, her ex-husband would cook up an excuse including their daughter was in good condition and no visits were required.

Her worries escalated especially after she had heard talks from her neighbours that Nur Zuliana had been allegedly beaten up repeatedly by her guardians.

Sana found it difficult to fathom the fact that Nur Zuliana had been victimised as she is under the custodian of her father. Nur Zuliana, who is also known as Yaya's poor state of health shocked Sana, especially after she had been living with her father and stepmother in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas for the past two years.

According to Sana, it has been a year since she last met Nur Zuliana, as her daughter had been taken to live under the same roof as her ex-husband and stepmother for the last two years.

“Yaya has been living with them for the last two years, last I met her (Nur Zuliana) was about a year ago. I tried contacting her father but he kept cooking up excuses prohibiting me from meeting my daughter. When I saw her condition, I decided to send her to a hospital in Golok as it is closer to where I am,” she said.

Sana hopes the society will not blame her for what has happened to her daughter.

Sana said she is grateful that her daughter’s condition has improved and started to talk again.

She also said that refused to ask Nur Zuliana about what had happened as she was afraid that it would affect her emotions.

Nur Zuliana had shown positive recovery and has started eating after she underwent a surgery two days ago.
