Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg's effort and far sighted planning for greater Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Serian was applauded by Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (KSMC) chairman Datuk Peter Minos.

"Such planning is eagerly awaited because any development, especially that related to the economy will generate jobs, businesses and all kinds of opportunities for the people," said Minos.

Jobs are needed for income, especially high-paying ones, to meet the rising expectations for new and better quality of life and that ever-rising cost of living, he added.

He said after taking over the office just over a month ago, it is highly commendable that the new chief minister has already initiated big ideas and plans for greater Kuching, Kota Samarahan and next door Serian, a new division.

This, he said is politics of development in action without wasting time and not bogged by too much bureaucracy and too much of talking.

"It is the late chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem's robust politics and activism now being replicated by our new chief minister," he said.

Minos said foreigners and local must always see greater Kuching as one best place to visit and live in and be proud of.

"We already have Kuching declared as a city of unity which we are all very proud of and Kota Samarahan as a centre of learning and knowledge...all that is needed is top-up and upgrade things there and Abang Johari is planning just that," Minos said. - BERNAMA
