The royal cortege left Istana Anak Bukit to the Langgar Royal Mausoleum accompanied by an 89-gun salute, signifying the age of the late Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

The gun salute was fired by the 41st Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment from the Sungai Buloh Camp in Selangor.

The sultan's remains were placed on a carriage and drawn slowly by a special vehicle, followed by the royal family and people from all walks of life.

A sombre and gloomy atmosphere filled the air as the cortege passed through Jalan Anak Bukit, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Langgar, here.

The distance between Istana Anak Bukit and Langgar Royal Mausoleum is 12.4km, with the cortege moving at 30km per hour.

The cortege was scheduled to arrive at the mausoleum about 4pm, followed by the funeral ceremony and tahlil.
