Sixty-four health clinics nationwide have been ordered to extend operation hours every day following the rise in the number of dengue cases.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the rise in the dengue cases resulted in congestion at the Emergency and Trauma Department of government hospitals.

He said in a statement here, Thursday, that the extended hours at the clinics concerned, which currently operates from 5pm to 9.30pm and 8am to noon on Saturday, had been extended up to 11pm every day including during public holidays.

"The extension of operational hours and the additional clinics will be temporary and implemented for one week to enable the implementors to determine and draw up the duty roster of the personnel involved," he said.

In Selangor, the additional clinics that would implement the extended hours were the health clinic in Section 19, Shah Alam, Batu Arang Health Clinic, The Botanic Health Clinic and the Dengkil Health Clinic, he said.

Meanwhile in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, the Health Clinics that extended their operational hours were the ones in Petaling Bahagia, Setapak and Cheras.
