Some 60,000 poor people living in the remote areas in Kelantan are getting free electricity through subsidy payment by the federal government, said Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) manager in Kelantan, Datuk Md Yuslan Md Yusof.

He said the federal government allocated RM620,000 a month in electricity subsidy for the poor with usage of not more than RM20 a month.

"Most of them are farmers and rubber tappers in Gua Musang, Jeli, Kuala Krai and Tanah Merah," he told reporters at the TNB's Baiti Jannati programme in Kampung Repek Hujung here today.

He said Kelantan was among the states which received huge allocation for electricity subsidy from the federal government.

At the event, single mother Faridah Yusof, 56, received the key to her house, built under TNB's Baiti Jannati programme which involved building or repair of houses for the poor.
