Five areas recorded unhealthy air quality as of 9 am.

Three of the areas are Samarahan, which recorded an air pollutant index (API) reading of 177; Kuching (165); and Sri Aman (164) in Sarawak, and two, Larkin Lama (111) and Pasir Gudang (127) in Johor.

According to the Department of Environment, the API reading for Samarahan yesterday was only 167, while Sri Aman, 154, and Kuching, 146.

Meanwhile, air quality at 33 locations is moderate, including Kuala Lumpur which recorded an API reading of between 63 and 76.

An API reading of 0-50 is categorised as good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy), and 300 and above (hazardous).
