A three-month-old baby boy was found unconscious on his first day at a child care centre in Section 35 here, before being pronounced dead at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang, yesterday.

District police chief ACP Safien Mamat said the baby was found unconscious by a caregiver at the centre at about 6 pm before being sent to a nearby private clinic for treatment.

"The baby's father sent his son to the care centre about 10 am (yesterday), but when he went to pick him up at 7 pm, he was informed by the centre's management that his son was in hospital.

"Prior to that, the baby was sent by his caregiver to a nearby clinic before being transferred to a hospital and was later pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital," Safien told reporters at his office here today.

He said no injuries were found on the victim's body.

He said the cause of the incident had yet to be ascertained. Police are investigating the incident from various angles, including the possibility that baby had choked on milk.

"Police were informed that the baby's mother had come to the centre around 3 pm to feed him. Therefore, we will find out whether the baby died choking on milk," he said.

Shafien said the incident has been classified as sudden death.
