A total of 2,000 mosquito larvae trapping devices (LTD) will be installed in areas that have the highest number of dengue cases in the Federal Territory.

Deputy Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan said the installation of the devices costing RM30,000 will be done in stages to detect, monitor and control the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, thus preventing dengue fever outbreaks.

"For a start we will distribute these devices in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. As for Labuan we will distribute the device in the near future," he told reporters after officiating the Dengue-Free Community (KBD) project, here, on Saturday.

He said the training on how to use the LTD was conducted through the KBD project which is the government's initiative to reduce the death rate due to dengue.

Earlier in his speech, Loga Bala said the KBD project is based on the behavioural change of society concept through education.

"All individuals must participate and ensure the success of this project," he said.

Meanwhile, he said the responsibility of eradicating the Aedes mosquito is not the government's alone, on the contrary all parties must be equally responsible and make sure the surrounding area is free of unwanted mosquito breeding.
