Sue the American Government if their claims on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) were unfounded.

This was stressed by former UMNO vice president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal yesterday.

"Sue the United States Government if their allegations are untrue. The Malaysian Attorney-General not only need to refute the claims but also make public the findings of the national audit report on the state investment fund," he said.

The former Cabinet minister said although the A-G (Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali) had explained the matter, there needs to be a follow-up as the allegations by the US Department of Justice would compromise Malaysia's image if they were not addressed immediately.

"I hope the report (of the auditor general on 1MDB) would be made public and what’s crucial is our subsequent actions on this case. It's not just about losing money… it’s embarrassing Malaysia on the world stage," said Mohd Shafie, who also called for the claims by US to be viewed seriously.

The Semporna MP, who was met at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house in Kampung Rampayan Laut here, added that the A-G has the obligation to head to the US to cooperate on resolving the allegations to clear Malaysia's good name.
