Businessman Jho Low has been summoned by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to appear before the bi-partisan parliamentary committee on Sept 8 over the controversy surrounding the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), as reported by the Star Online.

Its chairman, Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the letter has been sent to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) as it was the main shareholder of the 1MDB.

According to him, the ministry should be in the loop of Jho Low's whereabouts.

He added that aside from Jho Low, PAC has also instructed the directors of Brazen Sky, another company that 1MDB had invested RM6 billion to appear for a meeting on September 9.

According to Nur Jazlan, the meeting is held for PAC to question them on the findings of the Auditor-General’s interim report on 1MDB which accumulated debts amounting to RM42 billion.

The report, submitted on July 9, covered the period between Feb 23, 2009 and March 30, 2014 when the Terengganu Investment Authority was formed, its takeover by the Federal Government and its subsequent transformation into 1MDB.

The PAC begun its investigation into 1MDB in May and had summoned MoF officials to explain the ministry’s role in the debt-ridden company.

1MDB's pas and present chiefs, Datuk Sharol Halmi and Arul Kanda will go before the PAC on Aug 4 and 5, while its board of directors will provide their testimony on Aug 17.

The committee will submit its findings and recommendations to Parliament soon after the investigation is completed.
