Penang Umno Liaison deputy chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican has called on the people to give their trust and support behind the special task force set up to investigate the alleged misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.

He believes the task force investigation and its findings will be fair and transparent as it is a collaboration of four agencies.

He said it is not fair if certain quarters still question the agencies’ integrity and role in the probe.

“If it was the police, people would say they are under orders but here are four agencies collaborating. Their findings will be professional and transparent,” he told reporters after a Ramadan function at Kepala Batas, Penang.

“The information is not coming from just one agency but four,” he stressed.

Reezal also called on the people to give room to the task force to carry on their investigation and be patient for their announcement.

“I think the outcome of the investigation is very important to clear the air and the government’s image,” he said.

“So, let us give the task force our trust and support,” he added.

Last Friday, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) alleged that 1MDB funds amounting to US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) had been channelled to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal account, a claim denied by both Najib and 1MDB.

Following the report, a special task force was set up to probe the alleged mismanagement of funds.

The task force comprised four agencies and their respective heads are MACC, Attorney-General’s Chambers, Police and Bank Negara Malaysia.
