Sixteen students and an activist believed to be involved in the #LangkahSiswa rally have been remanded until Friday to assist investigations relating to the protest.

Sentul Police Chief, Commissioner Assistant R Munusamy said, they were remanded after they refused to disperse despite a police ultimatum.

He said, a group of police officers had warned and ordered the group made up of 30 students and activists, to leave the premises as the protest was believed to have taken place less than 50-metre from the Parliament compound.

“Their act is against the law and during the arrest, there were 25 students (including observers) at the scene,” he said, when contacted by Astro AWANI on Wednesday.

He stressed that the police had ordered the participants who were not handcuffed get into the police vehicle unaided by the authorities.

The rally participants however did not take heed to the police order.

“Police had ordered them to get into the truck but they just refused to do so which led to the police to handcuff them using duct tapes,” he added.

The sit-in rally started Sunday by a group made up of 30 students and activists outside Parliament as a call for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down.

The group, touted as 'Langkah Siswa' marched from Bank Negara on Jalan Dato’ Onn towards Parliament and the rally gained momentum after police moved in to break up the group.

They camped outside Parliament until they were detained on Tuesday.
