At least 12 men and two women became stranded after a water surge incident while at the Sungai Chiling area, Kuala Kubu Bharu, near here, late Sunday.

They were said to be on a hill-climbing activity at the location when the incident took place.

According to a Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, 13 firemen were rushed to the location soon after receiving a distress call at 7pm.

"Seven Pakistanis were rescued at 10.45pm," he said, adding that efforts to find and rescue the rest was still going on.

Speaking to Bernama, he said the rescuers were forced to wait for the water level at the river to recede before conducting a search and rescue operation.

But, he said, alternative routes were being worked out to reach the trapped victims.
