A total of 1,194 notices were issued to motorcyclists and vehicle drivers committing various offences during the Chinese New Year Operations beginning Feb 1 until last night.

Penang Road Transport Department Director, Noorul Habib Abdul Guduse said out of the total, 496 notices were issued to motorcyclists involving various offences with the highest offence being riding without a licence.

"A total of 1,092 vehicles were inspected and 496 notices issued involving various offences such as driving without a licence, expired driving licence, not displaying the 'P' plate and other offences.

"The special operation carried out last night was also participated by several other agencies such as the National Anti-Drugs Agency, Department of Environment, Puspakom as well as the Narcotics Unit and the Traffic Police," he told reporters, here last night.

He said 51 personnel from the Road Transport Department were involved in the operation.
