For Malaysians residing in or visiting the city of Bangkok, they can continue to have their nasi lemak or laksa at Restoran Ibu here.

The restaurant, run by a former chef of a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Ahmad Shukri Mohamad Salim, is opened to meet the high demand for Malaysian food in Bangkok.

"The demand for halal Malaysian food is high here and the food served in Restoran Ibu meets the taste buds of Malaysians because the food here tastes like their mother's cooking at home," he said.

Ahmad Shukri was met by Bernama at the soft launch of the restaurant, which is located in the Silom tourist area.

The event was also attended by Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Nazirah Hussain.

Besides nasi lemak and laksa, the restaurant also serves roasted chicken rice, steamed chicken rice, mee mamak, nasi goreng kampung, keropok lekor and also the popular teh tarik and sirap bandung.

The restaurant, to be opened to the public beginning May 27 from 11am to 10pm, will also serve Thai cuisine.

Meanwhile, Nazirah said there was good potential for those keen to open restaurants serving Malaysian food in Thailand, especially in Bangkok, as the Thais also loved Malaysian food.

Restoran Ibu is at 761 Silom Road, Silom, and for those having problems locating it, they can contact Ahmad Shukri at 02-6350441.
