Google Malaysia announced on Wednesday that Google will begin to drive its Street View cars through the streets in Malaysia for the first time. Through working with Tourism Malaysia, the Street View cars will begin capturing imagery of Malaysia through Google Maps with Street View.

At the launch event held at Zebra Square, Google unveiled the fleet of Google Street View vehicles, including the Google Street View car, Street View Trekker, Street View Trolley and Street View Trike.

In addition to introducing Google Street View vehicles at the launch, Google published special Street View imagery of 18 selected sites around the country, including Sunway Lagoon, Penang War Museum, Taman Rimba Kiara, Masjid Sultan Sallahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah, Shah Alam and more. The 360-degree imagery, collected using the Street View Trike, a tricycle-based camera system, will allow Malaysians and people the world to virtually explore these scenic Malaysian destinations through Google Maps.

The launch of Google Street View is the first step to digitizing imagery of Malaysia. Google is expected to announce when the collected images are ready to be shared with the public.
