The Langkawi International Airport (LIA) was voted as one of the top three best airports in the Airport Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award 2016 for size under the two to five million passengers per annum (MPPA) category.

In a statement today, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the ACI ASQ survey measured service quality at airports based on passenger feedback.

LIA handled 2.7 million passenger movements in 2016, a 13.6 per cent growth from 2015.

According to the airport operator, LIA scored high marks for courtesy and helpfulness of airport staff, walking distance inside the terminal, airport safety and security, as well as waiting time at the passport/personal ID inspection.

LIA's maiden win was in 2013, when it participated in the survey for the first time.

In 2014, it won the "Best Airport by Region (Asia Pacific) in the fewer than two million passengers per year (0-2 MPPA) category before moving into a new category for 2-5 MPPA starting in 2015 due to its impressive growth in 2014.

ASQ is the only worldwide programme to survey passengers at the airport on their day of travel.

Each year, the programme conducted some 600,000 individual surveys in 41 languages in 84 countries.

The ASQ Awards Ceremony would be held at the 27th ACI Africa/World Annual General Assembly, Conference & Exhibition in Port Louis, Mauritius from Oct 16 to Oct 18, 2017.
