"I feel jaded," she started. "I want to feel alive again. What can I do to make myself feel better?" my friend asked. The rest of us took a moment and put ourselves in her shoes before we came around to offering our suggestions.

I prodded further. "What makes you say so and why do you think you are feeling this way?" I prompted.

As it turns out, my friend's passion for her job is diminishing. A teacher of five years, she felt as if her energy is depleting, doing the same old as the years go by. She no longer finds joy in the current work environment and she wants out.

"I want to try teaching at an international school for a change. I have been wondering how different it could be," my friend confided.

It is an inevitable feeling that many of us have experienced at some point. Because inherently we are on the lookout to refresh our perspectives. Anything that is new and different is bound to captivate our attention.

I have always believed that the real challenge is to find our own answer to a meaningful life. No two lives are the same, we cannot make a copy of what works for others as our own.

There may be some who think: "If I were nothing more than just a bleep in the history of mankind, why bother to set out to 'make a dent in the universe'? I am happy with where I am." On the other hand, some may think: "My contribution may be small but I can see how my conscious choices bring an effect to the people around me. I know I can do so much more." To each his own, both perspectives make perfect sense.

Life can be tough, circumstances may not be in our favour the entire time, and we are not always in luck to have the opportunity to meet good-hearted people who will cheer us on.

During trying times, believe that tomorrow will be better. It is true that there is no way to know how things may unfold, so hold on to the small things in life that make our heart flutter. More importantly, make ourselves a promise that even when things do not turn out as we wished for, we will remain hopeful.

The only limits are the ones we create.
