Despite Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's promise to repeal it, the Sedition Act 1948 is seen to have been used quite excessively of late.

The government is supposed to table a "National Harmony Bill" to replace the Sedition Act, but until that happens, the Act, that many deemed as restrictive, it is still in force.

Among those dragged into the sedition net included the late DAP national chairman Karpal Singh, journalist Susan Loone, and law lecturer Prof Azmi Sharom.
