The Communication and Multimedia Ministry Humanitarian Fund (TKKMM), which was launched to help victims of flood disaster in the country, has managed to raise cash of RM2,233,228 in just 37 days.

Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Strategic Communication chief and senior director Sheikh Raffie Abd Rahman said the TKKMM fundraising campaign was officially stopped at 11.59 pm yesterday.

He said the amount collected by the TKKMM had also surpassed the amount collected by Gaza Relief Fund and Typhoon Haiyan Relief Fund launched in the country last year.

"Public donations for the flood victims are encouraging and this clearly proves the concerns and caring attitude of the Malaysian people," he told Bernama when contacted here today.

Sheikh Raffie said the money was expected to be distributed to those affected by the floods by end of this month.

"We hope the donations will be able to help the victims to get back on their feet. On their behalf, I thank all Malaysians for the donations," he said.

TKKMM was launched on Dec 24, 2014, to enable the public to make personal donation to victims of the recent flood disaster which hit several states in the country.

The fundraising campaign was managed by the ministry through the MCMC with the cooperation from several telecommunication companies, including Celcom, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd and Maxis Berhad.

Donations were made through SMS by sending BANJIR (space)(amount of donation) to 13999.
