The number of flood victims at evacuation centres in Sarawak has risen to 5,178, compared to 3,892 in the afternoon.

However, Kelantan and Perak reported a decrease to 255 and 78 respectively, as of 9pm.

In SARAWAK, flood victims in Kuching totaled 2,677; Samarahan, 1,761; Limbang, 551; and Mukah, 189.

A Sarawak National Security Council (MKN) spokesman said 34 evacuation centres have been opened, compared to 26 this afternoon, and the number is expected to be increased late tonight.

The spokesman said the weather appeared to have improved in the afternoon but the situation deteriorated by night time at various locations, compounded by high tide, which is expected to persist for a few days.

Thirty-three schools have been closed temporarily, according to the spokesman.

Meanwhile, in KELANTAN, the figure has decreased by 99 to 255 from 354 this afternoon.

A Kelantan MKN spokesman said the victims comprising 62 families whose homes were either destroyed or badly damaged by the floods in December last year, were currently staying at eight relief centres in Kuala Krai.

In PERAK, a MKN spokesman said the number of flood victims in Perak Tengah stood at 44, while in Hulu Perak, 34.
