The floods situation in Sarawak and Sabah has eased considerably with only 978 evacuees still in shelters in the two states as compared to 1,090 people at noon.

According a National Security Council spokesman in Sarawak, the number of evacuees in the state dropped to 975 people as compared to 1,079 at noon.

He said the victims, from 280 families, are at three relief centres in Bintulu and one in Miri.

There are 964 people in the Bintulu shelters and 11 in the Miri one.

In Sabah, a spokesman at the Beaufort flood operations room said only three people from one family still remained at the Dewan Baru Membakut shelter as compared to 11 victims from three families at noon.
