The flood situation in Sabah and Sarawak is gradually improving with lesser victims at the evacuation centres in the two states compared to this afternoon.

The number of evacuees in the two states dropped to 3,619 in the evening from 5,319 this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees in Kelantan and Perak remained at 255 and 34 respectively.

It is understood that flood victims in Perak whose homes were swept away have been transferred to the hostel in Sekolah Kebangsaan Lenggong this evening, to stay there until their transit homes are built.

In Sabah, the number of evacuees decreased to 1,695 from 471 families in the evening compared with 2,835 from 871 families this afternoon.

A spokesman for the Beaufort flood operations room said the number of evacuees in the district also decreased to 195 from 52 families.

The number of victims in the small district of Membakut dropped to 1,500 (from 419 families) with four relief centres being closed at 5pm today.

In Sarawak, the flood situation has greatly improved today with only 1,924 evacuees from 601 families left at 10 relief centres by 4pm today.

Earlier at noon today, there were 2,484 evacuees from 768 families at 12 relief centres.

A spokesman for the state National Security Council said Samarahan Division still had the biggest number of evacuees at 889, followed by Limbang (661), Miri (244), Mukah (80) and Kuching (50).
