The Weeknd was the big winner at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night, taking home eight awards in total, reports Billboard.

The star won some of the top prizes at the event, picking up Top Hot 100 Artist, Top R&B Artist and Top R&B Song.

The ceremony was broadcast live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and saw performances from Britney Spears, Kesha, and Madonna, who chose the occasion to pay tribute to Prince alongside Stevie Wonder.

Other big winners on the night include Adele, who won Top Artist and Top Female Artist, Justin Bieber who won Top Male Artist and Rihanna, who picked up the fan-voted Chart Achievement Award.
