THE BBC has released never-before heard recordings by the late Amy Winehouse in advance of a new documentary on the singer's career and battle with addiction.

Released on the BBC's iPlayer Monday as part of a program "Amy Winehouse: In Her Own Words," the recordings are drawn from interviews Winehouse gave to the BBC before her death in 2011 and also include live performances of "Love Is a Losing Game" and "Wake Up Alone" which were never broadcast.

The release precedes a documentary film about the star's life, which hits theaters in the UK (and US) next week.

Called "Amy," the film is directed by Asif Kapadia and includes 100 interviews with 80 people including friends, family and colleagues of the star.

"Amy Winehouse: In Her Own Words" is available now on the BBC iPlayer.
