Robert De Niro is taking his first steps into the musical world with a debut album, reports NME.

The American actor collaborated with foltronica artist Woodkid and composer Nils Frahm to produce "Ellis," an album that also includes a short film about Ellis Island.

In the album and film, De Niro plays an immigrant who arrives in the US in the early 1900s. On one half of the album, De Niro can be found narrating over Woodkid and Frahm's harmonium and strings.

"Ellis" comes out July 8 and proceeds will go to the Sea Watch refugee charity. A preview will be available at the Barbican Centre in London on July 2.
