Fans of fantasy sci-fi may be interested to learn about the newest series in development for the small screen, set to take place in a fictional land described as "Lord of the Rings" meets "Avatar."

Named "The Perished Land," the 12-part series will be overseen by the producers behind "Game of Thrones" and "Rome" and headed by Germany's Beta Film.

The announcement was made at Mipcom, an entertainment convention in Cannes.

Set in Talanton, the tribal, fantasy land is described as a remarkably beautiful world inhabited by vengeful and benign spirits, rituals, superstitions and the supernatural.

Driving the drama will be world wars, tyrannical rulers, and religious conflicts, reports Deadline.

"The Perished Land" is scheduled to air in 2017.
